Girls on the couch

Benedek Bence launched his blog, LifeT!lt, at the beginning of 2011, presenting lifestyle change advice in his uniquely outspoken style.

News quickly spread about the aggressive, outspoken stranger who harshly criticized women. Everyone on Facebook shared it, and in the comments, he was either idolized or heavily slammed. What the 29-year-old guy is doing seems to have been missing from the diet scene, because in just 2 years he got his own site, lives off it, and is building a brand. And he doesn't handle women with kid gloves.

Dívány: – Is this your specialty? Giving advice in an obnoxious style?

Benedek Bence, LifeTilt.hu: – Of course. That's what comes naturally to me.

– And is this what women need?

– Yes. I don't know how you'll feel during the program, and I don't care if you feel good, but if this is what it takes for you to stick with the diet, and then truly feel good afterwards, then this is what needs to be done. Plus, women need this: a dominant male figure.

– What makes you think they need that?

– Because I know women. I'm 29, and during that time I've had quite a few experiences with women in my private life, and I've worked with more than 200 women during the program. I'm not saying this based on a single encounter; I've gotten to know their problems.

– And none of them ever say "screw you!!"?

– No, why would they? Anyone who seeks me out after reading my site does so because they need this.

– Could it be that this is still about you having problems with women?

– Yes, it is. A woman tore me apart.

– …and ever since then, you've been projecting that onto all the others…

– You can read a lot into it. Csernus wrote a book about women, held relationship classes and seminars, and then his wife cheated on him for years, and now he's alone. I'm very stable; it's hard to throw me off balance. If I'm emotionally attached to a woman, that can disturb me, but it's not about a woman hurting me and then "to hell with all the others," absolutely not. It's not even about "my god, you women, how stupid you are!" but about being a woman, experiencing certain situations as a woman is not easy. Because of emotional functioning, you don't always see life realistically, and there are problems with perseverance when it comes to dieting. I write about how I know what you're like and what you should do.

– And is this the solution? If you lose weight, you get the guy?

– It's not about getting the guy, it's about having a life where you're satisfied when you look in the mirror. You'll live out your femininity, you'll have charisma, which will not only attract good men but also make you more successful in all areas of life. I'm not talking about weight loss. There are a lot of women who live with 10-12 kilos of excess weight, yet they can dress in a way that it doesn't show, they look good – but they know it's not the real deal. It's like having a wound that you put a band-aid on: no one knows it's there, but you do. This is how overweight consumes women in their daily lives. But if there's nothing to hide, then it will attract quality men too.

– Why do you think a man is "quality" just because he talks to attractive women?

– He's not quality because of that, but because he's achieved something professionally. A man isn't a man because he looks good, but because he wants something from life, he gets into situations, he represents something. If a woman can't bring out the best in herself, if she devalues herself, then she'll meet men who are boastful, lie, constantly fake a life they don't live, are without perspective, and don't want to grow. This leads to the woman eventually losing respect for the man. The point shouldn't be weight loss, but for the woman to get the things she desires. That's the essence of LifeT!lt, not just weight loss.

– How are the women you helped lose weight doing? Are they experiencing this, or do they still feel fat?

– Some have left their multi-year relationships, some have had their relationships repaired, but some have remained in the same state they were in before. If things don't change in the mind, the cure is worth nothing. There are also quality differences among people. I bring out the potential in those who have it, but for those who don't, it doesn't matter if they lose weight, I can't do anything with it. What differentiates them is how they can use the opportunity they are given.

– Have you ever suggested a psychologist to someone?

– I usually say that if someone starts working with me, I'm just a preliminary filter. I don't want to save lives; I don't have the strength or energy for it. I help those who can be helped, and those with that extra something move forward. You can't always give crutches; eventually, people have to realize they're reliant on their own abilities.

– What makes this diet different from the others? It seems to me like a simple calorie-counting diet…

– That's absolutely not the case. There's that certain protein-carb-fat ratio, which, when properly combined, will make you healthy. Three pieces of chocolate are 100 calories, as is 100g of chicken breast, yet what a difference there is between the two! Food is healthier the more protein it contains and the appropriate fat ratio it has. I only recommend high-quality foods that are properly composed. It's not just about calorie counting.

– Why do you think you're an expert when you've never studied it?

– Let's say you discover you can dance. If you don't go to dance school, does that mean you can't dance? I researched all of this very thoroughly before I wrote it. I started working out at 21 and met a very good professional who had completed every course and passed on his knowledge to me. Plus, I read a lot of literature on the subject, so it's not like I'm acting on some personal intuition. The references are there; my "What happened to them?" series is currently running, and no one has regained weight, in fact, some have lost even more since then.

– Is it all about gathering attractive women around you?

– Of course it is. But I have plenty of attractive women around me even without this. I offer a male image, an alternative, and women find this very impressive. My blog and my writings have provoked many people. Not by chance. It was pure provocation, the scandals, and everything else. I build on negative anger.

– Why did you start blogging about being a cool guy who knows the secret to making girls and guys skinny?

– To that, I might say it's like starting to draw at home. Then you realize others like it, and you start teaching them. If they have an affinity for it, they continue drawing, and you get more and more students.

– Can you make a good living from this?

– In the beginning, I didn't earn anything from it. Now, quite a lot. I've been living off this since July, so at this level, the program is about money. I put out the program in the summer, asking for applicants. So many applied that I was stunned. They sign up for the program, and I work with them.

– So, you're a personal trainer?

– No. I'd hate myself if I were just a personal trainer. I don't need that title.

– So how do you define yourself?

– I am the owner of LifeT!lt, which means I do many things in one person. I sell personal training, proteins, food delivery, and there will also be a clothing line. These are the basics, and today each of them has a leader at the helm. We are building a brand. The way it works is that what I earn from the program participants, I invest into protein production. What I earn from protein, I invest into home delivery, and we will also launch a clothing line, which Tamara Barnoff will design.

– And what will make your protein different from others on the market?

– Why do you have an iPhone? I'm building a brand, the goal is to make it something good to belong to. I'm going to give the best quality product presented in the best way, so that LifeT!lt becomes a fancy thing. Plus, my diets and workouts are effective, so why wouldn't people buy them?

– Have professionals attacked you?

– The profession hates me terribly. I can't name a gym where if I go, they wouldn't say, "What's this idiot kid doing here?" Let them achieve even a tenth of what I have, or motivate as many people as I do, and then we can talk. But 95 percent of the "profession" hasn't even achieved that much.

– How much will you become like Norbi Schobert?

– Not at all. Norbi is like the MSZP. Hugely popular, everywhere, ingrained in society, but just as the MSZP blew its chance, so did Norbi. What he does is not a healthy lifestyle; more and more people will realize this. Norbi is first now, but in five years I will overtake him. If I have the talent, that extra something needed, then I will achieve my goals.

– How credible is your guru status if you smoke and drink at the same time?

– This doesn't make my diet any weaker, and everyone knows this about me. I don't pretend. I do everything the way I do it, and there's a system behind me that works and that women need.
