Group A: Under 25 minutes. This is the elite category, for those who can complete the distance in under 25 minutes. You'll need to be able to run 4:30-4:40 minute kilometers for this.

Group B: Under 30 minutes. Most participants will be in this group. To run around the island in under 30 minutes, you'll need a pace of 5:30-5:50 minutes per kilometer, which is easily achievable for an averagely fit person. If you're overweight, smoke, or haven't run in at least six months, it's probably best not to push for this group.

Group C: Under 35 minutes. I would be the happiest if only 20% of Budapest's population could run around the island in this time. This group will consist of those who will find completing the distance challenging, and not because they are physically incapable. The biggest hindering factors will be mental, because those who start here are either not yet able, or find it very difficult, to step out of their comfort zone, and they perceive the challenges of sport as suffering rather than easily surmountable obstacles. This group is where everything I talk about on this blog comes to the fore: you have to overcome your own weaknesses. Everyone should be able to run 5 km, no matter how sedentary their lifestyle is. They might suffer terribly and feel like they're going to shit themselves, but they can finish it, and at the finish line, that uplifting feeling will come: "Yes, damn it, I did it."

Group D: Over 35 minutes. Those starting here are the most afraid of the distance. There's a good chance they will stop and complete the rest of the distance by walking, because it's clear to everyone that there's no stopping, waiting for a bus, and taking it to the finish line. Anyone who stops MUST still reach the finish line. If by walking, then by walking, but the point is that anyone who comes to RunTilt must complete the distance one way or another. This is the only rule that applies to everyone.

Group D starts first, and the other groups follow every 2 minutes. In groups 3 and 4, the goal is to reach the finish line together, meaning don't leave each other behind. Pull each other along, look out for each other, because you're here to move together, and ideally everyone should go home with a sense of achievement and reach their best personal result. There's a competition among those in groups A and B, and the prize, as with all people of human quality, is prestige and glory...
