Ich und der Tilt

Én és a Tilt

Because of my job, I don’t want to publish before-and-after bikini/underwear photos here, but if there are any girls among you who always have an extra 5-10 kg hanging around and are on the verge of giving up, I recommend the following to them.

As long as a few guys still check you out on the street, someone loves your body, and you’re the only one bothered by your jiggle, there’s no big problem. You start a few diets, buy carb-free baked goods - never mind that they have a thousand calories and the bag is dripping with fat - but you believe you’re eating well, and twice a week you drop in for some toning thing… and of course, all the while, you can’t understand why nothing is changing.

I’m no spring chicken. I was 34 when I went to see Tomi with my sister, whom I’d been cursing along with for years over the never-ending weight-loss struggle described above. Before our first meeting, Vera and I made it clear that this would be our last attempt to lose weight. If things didn’t work out with the Tilt guy either, we’d put it down to genetic bad luck and carry on as before in our size 38 jeans, with our little rolls of fat and the knowledge that this was just how life had dealt us. We met Tomi in front of the basilica (later, we just called him “the Tilt guy”), and I made it clear to him: “If you can get me down to a steady 60 kg, I’ll be grateful for the rest of my life, and we’ve got a deal.”

Diet: I didn’t eat foods made with white flour or sugar even before, but obviously I ate everything else around the clock. So when on the third day of the diet the afternoon snack was Abonett crispbread and plain yogurt, I literally cried from hunger that evening. Everyone on the forum scolded me, saying Tilt wasn’t about starving yourself, they didn’t understand what I was whining about, but girls like me know exactly what I mean. It took two weeks before I could force myself to drink 3 liters of fluids a day and think about something other than food. I learned to appreciate a measly apple all over again, and oatmeal positioned itself at the level of crème brûlée in terms of enjoyment.

Training: It took up a huge amount of time. At first, all I did was go to work, work out and sleep. I hated running, even more so the smell of sweat at the gym, the sticky women’s changing rooms, the pain, the blisters. But the kilos started coming off. After the first two, there was a big stall. I freaked out. I even told Tomi I’d had enough, I was giving up, and I didn’t believe in this whole damn thing, and I was only seeing it through because I had pride and I’d already paid the money for it. Tomi said not to worry, it would happen, we just had to be patient. But how is a girl supposed to be patient when she’s already bought size 32 jeans and, to go with them, the miniskirt she hadn’t worn in years? Then, suddenly, things started moving again. It was fate’s gift that my sister and I both weighed 59.9 kg on the very same morning. It gave me such a huge boost that something totally clicked for me after that.
